Lake Tahoe Leads The Country in Snowfall, 16 Feet and Counting

Monster storms continue to blanket Lake Tahoe ski resorts in pillows upon pillows of bottomless snow with the latest round dropping more than 10 feet of snow at upper summit elevations. These massive mega-storms have amassed more than 200” (16.6’) of snow during the first twelve days of January catapulting Lake Tahoe ski resorts to lead the country in snowfall totals over the entirety of last week.

All Aboard the Tahoebound Powder Express

Lake Tahoe has a new month: Powderary. January is already the snowiest month of the season only five days into 2017! This potentially historical weather pattern looks to continue over the next two weeks with storm after storm lined up off the Pacific Coast, each one forecasted to drop MULTIPLE FEET OF SNOW!

Shred, White and Blue

There must be something in the water in Lake Tahoe. How else you can explain the abnormally high percentage of Olympic gold medalists and world champion athletes that call Lake Tahoe home? We shared a chairlift with a few of them recently to find out just what it is that makes Lake Tahoe so extraordinary.

Hot Wax Anyone? Spring in the High Sierra

The spring skiing scene in Lake Tahoe is legendary. Bluebird skies, comfortable temps, deep snowpacks and a laidback California vibe come together to attract thongs…scratch that…throngs of sun worshipers to the slopes of Lake Tahoe.

America’s Favorite Winter Playground

Truly the crown jewel of the High Sierra, Lake Tahoe strategically straddles two states bringing together California’s laidback vibe with Nevada’s anything goes attitude. One of the most beloved ski regions on the planet, Lake Tahoe boasts fifteen downhill resorts and seven cross country areas, more resorts in close proximity than any other winter destination in North America.

The Tahoe Weather Paradox

For the uninitiated, riding a Lake Tahoe storm wave is a required rite of passage to call oneself a true blue powderhound – just don’t forget the sunblock. The region is geographically predisposed to attract massive snowstorms measured in feet rather than inches followed by predictably sunny skies – the makings of a legendary bluebird powder day.

Cloud Seeding Contest

The depths of Tahoe are a thing of legend, both the lake’s cobalt blue waters and the mountain’s bottomless snow. On deep powder days, chairlift rides are filled with stories of overhead turns, tunneling faceshots, even the occasional claim of a Jacques Cousteau sighting (he did once captain a submarine in Lake Tahoe). One thing is certain, there are many times when a snorkel comes in handy on the slopes in Tahoe.
