Deep Snowpack, Continuing Winter Storms Create Epic Spring Skiing and Snowboarding at Ski Lake Tahoe Resorts

Lake Tahoe, CA & NV (April 2, 2008) – Visitors to the Lake Tahoe area can enjoy skiing and snowboarding through May thanks to local resorts’ late-season and extended closing dates due to Tahoe’s epic winter conditions resulting from a succession of powerful storms which brought incredible snowfall reaching 450 inches in some areas this season. March has seen several storms add to Tahoe’s massive annual snowfall totals and more snow is forecast this week, enhancing the conditions at the seven Ski Lake Tahoe resorts, including Alpine Meadows, Heavenly, Kirkwood, Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort and Squaw Valley USA. In addition to the amazing conditions on the slopes, great travel deals, and unique events, the infectious, fun vibe of Lake Tahoe makes it America’s favorite spring ski resort destination.

“Long after other resorts have packed it in for the season, the fun is still going in Tahoe as our resorts are able to keep lifts turning into late spring year after year, creating a spring skiing phenomenon we’re known for all over the world,” said John Wagnon, president of Ski Lake Tahoe. “Spring is a great time to visit Tahoe for incredible on-mountain conditions, sunshine and package deals that won’t break the bank.”

Budget Travel Deals

Amazing travel deals at the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts and surrounding hotels and casino resorts make springtime skiing easy on the wallet. With discount airfare deals through the Reno-Tahoe International Airport ,several convenient shuttle and transportation options and thousands of available hotel rooms at casino resorts dotted around the lake region, Lake Tahoe is one of the most accessible ski destinations.

The seven Ski Lake Tahoe resorts are offering a variety of springtime discounts, including: spring lift ticket pricing from $15 and up, including special student discounts just in time for spring breakers; blowout spring pricing with spring passes allowing unlimited skiing through the rest of the season for as little as $99; ski and stay packages starting at as little as $59 per night through Ski Lake Tahoe resorts and lodging partners. Unique Events & Top Entertainers on the Calendar

Spring break isn’t just for the younger generation as adults are succumbing to “spring fever” as well, leading to many missed days in the office. While thousands of students flock to Tahoe on their respective spring break holidays, springtime events and entertainment options are plentiful in Tahoe luring young adults, baby boomers and anyone in between. The spring calendar includes legendary artists like the Black Crowes, Sammy Hagar and Queensryche as well as a variety of winter sports competitions and celebrations that will draw thousands.

Ski Lake Tahoe resorts will be hosting unique competitions and events this Spring ranging from the first-ever multisport boarding competition, to a marathon mogul competition, ever-entertaining pond skimming competitions, backcountry and freestyle performance skills clinics and camps, slope-side outdoor pool and jacuzzi parties, women-specific winter sports competitions and clinics and telemark festivals. Legendary Spring Conditions

While this season has been a banner year for snow, excellent spring riding is an annual occurrence due to Tahoe’s typically longer winter seasons and unique spring slope conditions. Ski and snowboard enthusiasts lust for “corn snow” that Lake Tahoe resorts get every spring, where snow is turned into corn size crystals from the combination of sunshine, warm temperatures and a nightly freeze. Corn snow grants some of the best turns possible over the entire season, whereby the snow isn’t too heavy, or too light, but just right. Spring is the time of year in Tahoe where it’s common to see resort patrons donning swimwear on the slopes and actually utilizing that attire for water sports the same day.

The Lake Tahoe area typically has better weather conditions than any resort area in the U.S., with the highest annual snowfall totals in the country combined with over 300 days of sunshine at slightly more comfortable winter temperatures. Tahoe experiences winter weather systems generated from Alaska that bring extremely cold temperatures and significant amounts of precipitation resulting in super-sized storms yielding excessive amounts of snowfall. Resorts’ Snow Totals Include Over 30 Feet of Seasonal Snowfall, Base Depths Over 12 Feet

Lake Tahoe, CA & NV (Feb. 22, 2008) – The Ski Lake Tahoe resorts are celebrating some of the best seasonal snow to date in decades, with even more powder days in the forecast from cold winter storms expected to deliver over three feet of snow through the weekend. The storm, currently delivering light, fluffy snow to the Lake Tahoe region, is yet another powerful Sierra storm system that follows an intense month of snowfall that has put snowpack totals above 150 percent of normal for the months of January and February. With a snowpack over 12 feet in select locations around the lake region, several Ski Lake Tahoe resorts will keep the lifts turning well into May, which is an annual occurrence due to Tahoe’s typically longer winter seasons.

“The consistently cold storm systems we’re experiencing this winter have created incredible conditions at the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts. This is actually common for our region, as Lake Tahoe typically receives over 400 inches of average annual snowfall, which is more than any other major snowsports destination in the U.S.,” said John Wagnon, president of Ski Lake Tahoe. “Based on record snowfall in January, Lake Tahoe has the best conditions in the country right now, and that will make for some fantastic late-spring skiing…another attribute Lake Tahoe is known for.”

Several resorts are boasting over 30 feet of seasonal snowfall to date that has enabled base depths to rise over 12 feet in select locations, putting base levels among the highest in the country. The month of March is traditionally a very snowy month in Tahoe and spring snowstorms in the Sierra are known to bring huge amounts of snow. With snowpack levels well above normal and the resorts being just halfway into the winter ski season, Tahoe resorts could expect record conditions for the 2007-08 season.
