Reliable Conditions, Unbeatable Vacation Packages Await Destination Travelers
Lake Tahoe, CA & NV (Nov. 18, 2010) - Destination travelers headed to Lake Tahoe to start their winter season will once again be greeted by open runs at multiple Ski Lake Tahoe resorts, the most affordable stay-and-ski packages in the country and several feet of new snow from a potentially historic storm system on the horizon. The majority of Ski Lake Tahoe resorts plan to open for skiing and snowboarding this weekend thanks to last week's storms that dropped nearly two feet of snow followed by a lingering cold front providing temperatures ideal for supplemental snowmaking.
For the opening weekend, Heavenly Mountain Resort plans to operate its Gondola and Tamarack Express lifts Friday, November 19th with access to a number of trails on the upper mountain including terrain park features and magic carpet access for beginners. For guests headed to the north side of the lake, Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort is slated to open Friday, November 19th with four lifts accessing beginner to intermediate terrain along with a handful of terrain park features. Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe will also be opening on Friday, November 19th with its Ponderosa Lift offering options for all ability levels. Squaw Valley USA plans to get in on the action beginning Saturday, November 20th with the Exhibition Lift open for skiing and riding (conditions permitting) along with the Cable Car for sightseeing. Alpine Meadows, Kirkwood Mountain Resort and Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort are keeping a close eye on the promising weather forecasts ahead and plan to open as soon as conditions permit.
"The Lake Tahoe region is a great choice for destination travelers searching for an accessible, affordable early season option with consistent, reliable conditions," said John Wagnon, president of Ski Lake Tahoe. "For the 2010-11 winter season, the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts have enhanced the guest experience to industry-leading levels thanks to forward-thinking capital investments and the introduction of new sports, lifestyle and hospitality initiatives that deliver memorable experiences rooted in Lake Tahoe's unique culture."
The National Weather Service has issued a significant storm warning for the Lake Tahoe region with forecasters calling for impressive accumulations between three to five feet by the end of this weekend. In typical Sierra winter storm style, the snowfall could be measured in feet rather than inches and local meteorologists are predicting this may be one of the biggest November storms in the last eight years. The region already experienced one of the stormiest Octobers on record and this trend looks to continue as long range forecasters are calling for above normal seasonal snowfall totals for the northern portion of the Sierra Nevada.
