Summertime at Lake Tahoe means much more than long days and bright California sunshine. It’s a time to play outside on the lake, on the trails or on the links. It’s also an ideal time to sample some of the many fun events happening at the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts.

It’s normal to assume that the ski resorts shut down once the winter is over. That’s not the case at Lake Tahoe. Northstar, Squaw Valley, Heavenly and Kirkwood turn into summer playgrounds, as trails once buried under the snow surface, providing ample opportunities for exploration and adventure.

On June 12, Heavenly opened for full seven-day-a-week summer operations with the debut of the resort’s new four line Hot Shot Zip Line, along with the Discovery Forest Ropes Course and Boulder Cove Ropes Course, which opened in summer 2014. Thanks to the recent rain and snow here in Tahoe, the mountain bike trails got a nice soaking, and will be prime as the warmer temps kick in this spring. With the opening of Bijou, we’re in full swing (see what I did there?) for Spring golf in Lake Tahoe. There’s added motivation to keep your shoulders loose and relaxed. Memorial Day at Lake Tahoe is traditionally considered a precursor to summer – a taste of things to come. This year is no different as many of the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts open for summer operations. Think hiking, mountain biking, or through the window of a tram. Here are a few ways you can sample Tahoe this holiday weekend.

Labor Day may signify the end of summer for many, but for winter diehards, it’s one more noteworthy milestone toward our favorite time of year. Intead of mourning the changing season, I’m eagerly storing away the white clothes and looking forward to the start of the ski season.
I’m not alone. Savvy snowboarders and skiers know that Labor Day at the Lake Tahoe ski resorts is one great celebration, including tent sales, a slew of fun events and even a few races.

Mountain biking is my favorite way to pass the time until the snow falls. Despite the many miles on my cross-country bike, I’ve never been on a downhill bike, nor have I ridden at Northstar California’s mountain bike park. I left that to my boyfriend and his group of friends, adrenaline loving guys who had learned to repress their self-preservation instincts and fear of heights, big rocks, and potential injury.

Lake Tahoe is a stunning backdrop for so many recreational activities. But it’s also the perfect setting for a great meal. This weekend Homewood will be home to two unforgettable food events.
