Thanksgiving Storms Leave Over a Foot of Snow

Winter storms over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend left 3-16 inches of new snow at the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts. More snow is forecast this week, allowing many of the resorts to open more terrain.

Don’t take our word for it. Check out some of our favorite tweets from the weekend.

New snow at Squaw Valley

October Snow at the Lake Tahoe ski resorts

Skiers and riders, time to get stoked! The Ski Lake Tahoe resorts received a few inches of snow over the weekend, and cold temperatures mean that many of the resorts have fired up their snowmaking systems in advance of Opening Day. And if that’s not enough good news, more snow is forecast for next weekend.

First Snowfall of the 2014-15 Season at Lake Tahoe

Those of us who are eagerly counting down to winter were excited to learn that Heavenly and Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe received snow today.  While it's more of a dusting, it's a clear (and beautiful) sign that winter is coming.

With more snow in the forecast for this weekend, we've got winter on the brain.

Five Feet of New Snow in a Week – No Joke!

It’s true. March came in like a lion, and left like a lion, leaving five feet of fresh snow at the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts. This latest round of powerful Pacific storms has resulted in the deepest powder conditions of the season. There is plenty of skiing and snowboarding still ahead as the majority of the resorts plan to remain open through Easter weekend, with some even aiming to remain open into the month of May (conditions permitting).

Snow update – 45 inches and counting

It’s been a great start to March here, as snow storms dumped 20-45 inches (nearly 4 feet!) of new snow at the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts. If you missed the powder this weekend, don’t fret, as more is in this week’s forecast. Check out some of our favorite photos and tweets below.

Powder Days Are Here Again - 2014 Style

Winter ain’t over yet! Tahoe skiers and snowboarders woke to a winter wonderland this morning, with the ski resorts reporting 6-16 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours, and it's still snowing! This is the first of three storms forecast to hit the Sierra through the weekend.  Can you say powder turns?

This is great news on so many levels.

Winter Driving Tips at Lake Tahoe

It was a dark and snowy night. The high school parking lot was deserted except for a 1976 Ford Granada turning doughnut after doughnut to Pearl Jam’s Ten. It was the first real snow of the season, and as a new driver, Mom and Dad wanted me to learn how to recover if I lost control on an icy road. It was scary at first, but I’ve been grateful ever since that I eventually got the hang of it.

New Snow at Sugar Bowl November 2013

Giving Thanks at Sugar Bowl

One of my favorite traditions of the Thanksgiving holiday festivities is when everyone at the table takes a couple quick minutes to tell everyone else at the table what it is they’re thankful for and why.
