Mountain Biking at Lake Tahoe

There is nothing quite like the feel of floating downhill. I first found this bliss skiing, and used to spend my off-seasons dreaming of the time when I’d be back on snow.

Until I started mountain biking.

Hiking at Squaw Valley | Matt Palmer

7 Top Hikes at Lake Tahoe

It’s normal to assume that the ski resorts shut down once the winter is over. That’s not the case at Lake Tahoe. Northstar, Squaw Valley, Heavenly and Kirkwood turn into summer playgrounds, as trails once buried under the snow surface, providing ample opportunities for exploration and adventure.

2013/14 Lake Tahoe winter wrap-up

Sad to admit it, but the winter season over.  It's time to store the skis and snowboards, reflect on the season, and start counting down to next winter.

What were your favorite moments of the 2013/14 season? Typically any day on the slopes equals a terrific day in my book, but below are five moments that stand out. Did I miss yours? Let me know in the comments.

Sunset over Lake Tahoe

2013/14 Lake Tahoe ski resort closing dates

For many, spring brings relief after a cold, long, winter. For others, it’s a bittersweet time, signaling the eventual end of ski season. The sad news for snow addicts is that the first of the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts close in just a few short weeks. It’s ironic, as skiing and riding is terrific right now, thanks to last week’s dose of winter!

That said, if you’ve not yet made ski and snowboard vacation plans to Lake Tahoe, you still have time (though don’t delay!).

Hope to see you out there!

March snowstorms dump nearly 4 feet of snow

Old Man Winter decided to pay Lake Tahoe a visit last week, bringing with him nearly four feet of new snow! As a result, conditions at the Ski Lake Tahoe resorts are currently awesome. The good news is that he’s sticking around. More snow is in the forecast tonight, which means we’ll be starting off April with a powder day (or two). No joke!

6 reasons to plan a Lake Tahoe Spring Ski/Snowboard Vacation

Sure, it’s natural to associate a ski vacation with winter. I love snowstorms, cold toes and hot chocolate by a fire pit as much as the next person, but if you’ve never been to Lake Tahoe for some spring skiing and riding, you’re missing out. Trust me on this one. To help you out, I’ve compiled a few reasons why you need to put Tahoe on your radar this spring.

Tahoe lab - Dave Clock Photography

Ask a Local – TahoeLab

Entrepreneurs and mountain towns are not as oxymoronic as you might think.  Maybe it's the scenery or something in the water, but there are a number of burgeoning businesses in the basin.  We were intrigued by one such new company, Tahoelab, created by local riders Abe Greenspan and Lee Collins. We were curious what brought them here, and what prompted them to start a snowboard and splitboard company.
