Kirkwood’s earliest opening in 5 seasons and a record breaking November storm – this 2010/11 winter season has started off with a bang! The K-Factor is in full effect & unprecedented early snow provided awesome early season conditions and excellent coverage top to bottom. Kirkwood’s famous terrain has all bases covered – from steep cliffs and chutes to high angle groomers and some great gullies. This variety of terrain provides the perfect backdrop for some world class events. Kirkwood’s proud to play host to the North American Freeskiing Championship and Northface Masters which are always crowd pleasers! Kirkwood will also be the February stop on the new Banzai Tour.
Something a lot of people don’t know is that Kirkwood is also home to some of the best beginner terrain in Tahoe. At The Tahoe Learning Center at Timber Creek, you’ll find gentle slopes at the perfect pitch and highly qualified instructors to help you along the way whether you choose ski, snowboard or telemark! Looking for something a little more adventurous? Expedition:Kirkwood offers specialty clinics that cover everything from all mountain riding & freestyle riding to back country awareness and beacon training. Explore the beautiful Sierra wilderness from another angle at our Cross Country & Snowshoe Center on highway 88. The Center offers 80km of diverse trails and spectacular scenery plus guided treks into the Sierra. Or, to see Kirkwood from a whole new perspective, take a ride to the top of Red Cliffs or Chair 2 aboard the Expedition Snow Cat, an experience you’re sure not to forget!
Other exciting additions for 2010/11 – The Small Fry Program at the Tahoe Learning Center, fostering a love of skiing in rippers as young as 2 as well as a brand new website plus real time weather updates from the hill every 4 minutes! And don’t forget to check out the High Alpine Adventure Center (HAAC) for the new Zip Tahoe canopy tours, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and the tubing hill!
