The lone U.S. stop of the Swatch Freeride World Tour (FWT) will take place tomorrow, February 27, at Kirkwood Mountain Resort. To say we’re excited is an understatement!
Beyond a few clear leaders, a pack of hungry underdogs are still chasing the chance to maintain a position on the FWT. Kirkwood is one of the final chances to get points on the board and a place on the podium.
Tomorrow’s event will feature a slew of local skiers and snowboarders, including Kirkwood’s own Casey Lucas and Josh Daiek, Jackie Paaso, Iris Lazzareschi and Sean Collins.
Kirkwood’s big mountain venue, The Cirque, makes for an ideal location for the fourth stop of the 2013 FWT. It is comprised of exposed, steep and raw terrain, which is permanently closed to the general public, resulting in a unique and exciting North American freeride venue.
So what is the Freeride World Tour exactly? It’s the world’s premier big mountain freeskiing and snowboarding tour, featuring the sport’s top athletes competing on the biggest mountain resort venues. Riders are judged on a variety of factors, including line difficulty, control, fluidity, technique and style.
Put simply, it’s a great event to watch. If you can’t make it tomorrow, you can catch a live webcast (and get inspired by the awesome feats of athleticism) on FreeRideWorldTour.com. For additional updates be sure to follow FWT on Facebook or Twitter.
