Spend a Summer Day at Heavenly Mountain

Jul 20th 2012

Heavenly views of Lake Tahoe

In my opinion, summer at Lake Tahoe can’t be beat. Most days are filled with sunshine, warm but not hot temperatures and so many activities from sandy beaches to challenging hikes to keep you busy. Here at Heavenly, we love transforming our winter playground into the perfect place to spend a summer day.

Why choose to visit Heavenly during your summer trip to Lake Tahoe? There are a ton of reasons, but I think the biggest one is that we offer the absolute best views of Lake Tahoe. When you ride the Gondola up 9,000 feet you’ll be presented with 360 degree, sweeping views of the lake and surrounding mountains. A stop at the mid station will give you time to soak the incredible beauty of Lake Tahoe in and snap some photos with your friends or family.

Once at the top of the Gondola, there are activities to keep adventurers of any age busy. For kids we have a rock climbing wall, climbing structure called the “spider climber.” For adults, there are numerous hikes accessible ranging from easy to difficult. You can even ride up to Heavenly’s peak on Tamarack chair lift to access more views and hiking trails. For those looking for a little speed, the tubing hill is 500-foot-long, with a 65 foot vertical drop – it will definitely get some screams out of your group!

Here’s a quick video showing all the activities you can expect at the top of the Gondola.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, stop into Tamarack Lodge for a yummy lunch of BBQ, pizza, salad and more. When I go up, I prefer to sit outside on the deck and take in the slopes of both California and Nevada. Of course, being five months pregnant, I can never leave the lodge without indulging in the ice cream bar. All the ice cream is locally made at the Hoch Family Creamery and comes with all the toppings me (and baby) could want.

There you have it – a summer day filled with amazing views, scenic beauty, outdoor activities and yummy food. Sounds just about perfect, right? To learn more about Heavenly’s summer offering and to buy tickets, visit our summer activities page.

If you have any questions, leave a comment and I’ll do my best to answer them.
