With the holidays winding down people are returning to the daily grind, but the fun never ends at Northstar! Every week (and nearly every day) there is something fun and new happening either on the mountain or in the Village, giving people every excuse to make it back up there as soon as possible. With the holiday crowds gone, the coming weeks might be the perfect time to take a midweek escape. Here are some of the many ongoing events happening at Northstar:
Head to Tavern 6330’ every Thursday night for a trip back the ‘20s! This prohibition era-themed evening brings you traditional old-school cocktails alongside Big Band, Swing and Jazz music. With drinks like the Perfect Manhattan, Churchill Martini and White Lady, Speakeasy Thursdays are the perfect way to try something new and expand your cocktail culture.
Nature Valley Snowshoe Tours
On the other end of the spectrum are the snowshoe tours at Northstar sponsored by Nature Valley. There are four types of tours: stargazing, twilight, moonlight, and afternoon.
The stargazing tour is led by poet and star guide Tony Berendsen. The group will use Telestron telescopes to view the stars and discover constellations after a challenging tour of Northstar’s rolling snowshoe trails. Tony will point out constellations and provide the stories behind them. The evening will end with wine and hot cider around the fire pits at the Cross Country, Telemark + Snowshoe Center.
Twilight and moonlight tours break into 2 - 3 different groups based on desired difficulty and follow Northstar’s snowshoe trails under the evening sky. The tour ends at the Cross Country, Telemark + Snowshoe Center with live acoustic music, s’mores and hot chocolate. Dogs on leashes are welcome!
The afternoon snowshoe tour is a perfect way to get your kids involved in the outdoors in a fun and unintimidating way. The tour follows an easy course through the beautiful forest around Northstar to an old red train car that Northstar repurposed to be used as a rest stop for snowshoe enthusiasts and cross country skiers.
Live music can be found every Friday night at Tavern 6330’ and weekend afternoons on the Village stage next to the ice rink. Friday nights bring the best acoustic duos from Tahoe and Truckee into an intimate atmosphere for a mix of songs and stories. Bands on the Village stage ramp up the energy for ice skaters and folks hanging out in the surrounding cabanas.
Turtleneck Tuesday Skate Nights
Northstar goes retro every Tuesday night on the ice rink! Relive the ‘70s and ’80s by dressing the part and skating the rink to classic music from those decades. The night includes ice skating games, prizes and free face painting. Lasers dance across the ice and glow necklaces make everyone bright and colorful. A portion of the proceeds from skate rentals will go to charity.
