Celebrating Lake Tahoe’s Olympians

Mar 11th 2014

South Lake Tahoe Olympians

It’s not every destination that boasts as many Olympians or medalists as Lake Tahoe. And while we’re not ones to boast (ok, maybe a little), we’re very proud of all the home-grown athletes that went to Sochi.

So it comes as no surprise that we’re celebrating them with a slew of parties this month.

The festivities begin this Saturday, March 15th, with Sierra-at-Tahoe hosting a big party for South Lake Tahoe’s three Olympians, Jamie Anderson, Maddie Bowman and Hannah Teter. The Golden Celebration at Sierra kicks off with a parade from South Lake Tahoe to Sierra-at-Tahoe, and will also include autograph signings, live music, food and drink specials, prizes and a raffle with proceeds going to the Sierra Foundation, which grooms future athletes. Parking is very limited, so if you plan to go, take advantage of the free South Shore shuttle.

Also on Saturday, Northstar California will be hosting a Welcome Home Celebration for Olympian gold medalist David Wise. The celebration will include a group photo with David on the mountain, a group ski run, autograph signing, Olympic themed face painting and s’mores in the Village, plus live music. Be sure to rent ice skates while there, as 20% of skate rentals on March 15 will go to the Reno Boys and Girls Club.

On Friday, March 21st, Squaw Valley will host an Olympic Homecoming Celebration. The event will feature an athlete parade, live music, fireworks, and an athlete meet and greet with Olympians Julia Mancuso, Travis Ganong, Marco Sullivan, Mikaela Shiffrin, and Nate Holland.
